Sooner or later we all leave this earth. A part breaks down, a disease creeps in, an unfortunate
accident happens. Many of those bad things that happen are totally out of our control, yet the
truth is, the choices we make in our lives have a huge influence on the odds of them happening.
Expecting our body to take care of us while living a destructive life style gets the same bad
result as hitting range balls for hours thinking our golf game will improve. The key to getting a good result, in both cases, requires a fundamental change from an expectation process to actively living in conscious awareness.
Making real changes scares a lot of people yet it is the only way to produce different results.
The tendency is to think we are the way we are because of things that have happened to us, and that is just the way it is. What it comes down to is exactly what our new age sages have been
preaching for years: Consciously choose the result you desire and commit to it.
Know that it does not have to look a certain way and open your mind to living in a new reality.
In the matter of your health and longevity, one of the greatest obstacles we seem to have is finding the carrot to dangle in front of us that will keep us motivated and committed. The ideal carrot should be based on time tested methods and have a built in way to measure progress. It should be challenging, invigorating, and enjoyable. And most of all, it needs to be of benefit to the mind and body so we can feel the changes and grow as individuals. What I discovered that met all these requirements was combining internal martial art training with the golf swing in such a way that even someone with no experience in either, could safely begin a program that would lead to a healthy golfing body. This program is Martial Golf.
Why golf? There is something about hitting a golf ball and watching it fly that instantly fulfills
some deep-seated human need to create success from individual effort. Most of us are not athletically gifted and a golf swing can be difficult to learn. However, golf offers a way for each of us to experience our own personal level of excellence and growth in a sport without the need to compare or compete should we so choose. You can start with one club and create a lifetime of healthy fun.
Why martial arts? First and foremost, martial art training methods have been developed over thousands of years and are proven to be extremely effective in developing a strong, flexible, energized body. We are very lucky to have this information available to us and I humbly bow to those dedicated individuals who have made it so. If you take away the martial application of the training, what you are left with is by far the best method for creating a mind-body connection and focus that will greatly improve your odds of success in any endeavor you choose. I would recommend Tai Chi as your introductory martial art. With continued practice, you will own a body that feels good to live in and you will learn, as I did, that paying green fees is much better than paying doctor bills.
So what is Martial Golf? I would define it as follows: First, it is a dynamic, focused golf swing created with martial art power; Second, it is an attitude of continuous improvement in mind, body, and spirit measured by a golf swing; Third, it is the game of golf elevated to a way of life reflecting the pure spirit of the martial arts.
Martial Golf is an attitude. One that reflects a choice made to grow both as a golfer and as a human being. It is about mindfully living and not wallowing in decay. You are welcome to join the army of Martial Golfers. It is an opportunity for true choice.
